Coils

As a homeowner, you may not completely understand the inner workings of your cooling system, but you certainly know when it isn’t working correctly. If your air conditioner isn’t cooling your home correctly, it could result from problems with the coils.

If your home seems continuously warm or your air conditioner seems to be struggling to do its job, call us at Eastern Shore Heating and Air Conditioning. We are your expert AC coil specialists in NJ, offering air conditioner installation, repair and replacement to get your system up and your home cooled down.

Air Conditioner Coils

Every AC system has two kinds of air conditioner coils:

  • Evaporator Coils
  • Condenser Coils

Evaporator Coils

Evaporator coils look like a set of small pipes. The evaporator coils are located within the air handler in an HVAC system. As warm air gets pushed through the air conditioning unit, the evaporator coils absorb the heat from the air. As the air passes through, dirt and dust stick to the coils, building up over time. Any condensation accumulating on the coils makes this even worse.

As the debris collects, it decreases the coils’ ability to absorb heat from the air. This reduces the machine’s energy efficiency and function as the unit struggles to cool the air.

Condenser Coils

Condenser coils are located in the outdoor portion of the air conditioner system. Their location means that condenser coils pick up a lot of debris and need regular cleaning.

Our Eastern Shore HVAC service technician will teach you how to keep the coils free of dust and debris in between service appointments. We recommend keeping your trees and foliage trimmed away from the unit and keeping it as clean as possible. We can also teach you how to maintain the condenser coil fins.

Cleaning the Coil Fins

Condenser coil fins are thin, parallel metal fins that play a significant role in the function of the condenser coils. They direct heat away from the machine and enhance the air conditioner’s efficiency. They also help diminish corrosion of the coils.

Coil fins can become dirty and require cleaning, but it must be done carefully. Coil fins are easily bent, and any bend in the metal can inhibit airflow and decrease the machine’s efficiency. A “fin comb” is the best way to clean coil fins, and our Eastern Shore technicians can show you how to clean coil fins safely and effectively.

Not only does the fin comb remove dust and debris, but it also straightens the coil fins and keeps them in good condition.
